Biography

Born in Panama, an only child, I was brought up in Jersey, Channel Isles, where I tended to prefer a solitary outdoor life to the pursuit of my formal education.  I developed a strong interest in natural history, and in music and painting.

Arriving in Oxford in the 70′s brought me down to earth and widened my horizons enormously. After a seven year period of professional training at the Oxford School of Architecture, I later succeeded in running my own Architects’ practice, working mostly on the enlargement and renovation of old houses and historic buildings. During this time I also started working on illustrations and watercolours, for which the inspiration was mostly architectural.

In 2002, with my partner Yvonne, we realised our dream of moving to live in Brittany in an old farmhouse in the country.  I believe that my roots have been deep in this landscape since my childhood in Jersey;  the sea, the pink granite, the local building style; all these and this calm yet atmospheric environment  have encouraged me to find the time and the desire to take up painting again.

For me the key to imaginative painting is keen observation.

I would like to present to you my paintings on several different themes, of which the sources of inspiration are above all here at Kervoas; reflections in the water, the play of light in our house, the trees beside the lane, everyday things in which I find a wealth of emotion and beauty.
